Sweatin' Burnt Orange Bike Tour

The Sweatin’ Burnt Orange Bike Tour, now in its 15th year, is the annual fundraiser for The University of Texas at Austin Cycling Club.  Each year, Texas alumni and club supporters ride through the beautiful hill country around Blanco, Texas. Rolling hills, fast descents, and punchy climbs make for great riding, while rest stops and support vehicles ensure a safe and comfortable ride.

The event hosts five fully supported route lengths between 11 and 73 miles. At the end of the ride, participants are treated to real Texas BBQ on the square.  One complimentary T-shirt and goodies are included in the registration fee.

Additionally, we’re glad to announce a university student discount!  Full registration price for students is $30, and a student ID must be presented at packet pickup.

This event is an incredible Texas riding experience that’ll leave you Sweatin’ Burnt Orange!

Frequently Asked Questions and their answers!

I rode last year, what’s new?

The 15th Annual Sweatin’ Burnt Orange Bike Tour has:

  • A redesigned t-shirt to wear with pride
  • Cash and item prizes for top 3 finishers of the 73 mi route.
  • Staff photographers
  • First access to Texas Cycling merchandise and kit pre-orders

Hey, I didn’t see a rest stop, what gives?

Rest stops can be viewed at this map: [link TBA]. We’re sorry that there wasn’t a stop at Old Tunnel State Park for the 73 milers last year. Now, it will be at the top of the climb! All rest stops will have food and water and are approximately 10 mi apart.

What’s there to do around Blanco?

Blanco, TX is the quintessential charming Texas town. Visit Blanco State Park, tour the Old Blanco County Courthouse (since 1886!) after lunch, or visit any one of the nearby wineries.

What should I do if I get a flat?

First, move yourself to the side of the road and ensure you are in a safe position. If you have the tools to fix a flat yourself, go right into it! If you need help or a spare tube, call the highlighted SAG number on the back of your cue sheet.

How do I know where to turn?

The route will be marked with two signs at each major turn. Our team will be present at each intersection to monitor traffic and man rest stops. Finally, each rider will be given a cue card with phone numbers to call for assistance.

What should I do if I crash?

First, assess the safety of yourself and others. If someone is seriously injured, immediately dial 911. Blanco City EMS knows the roads that we use and is on alert. If you fall and get a minor scrape, please call the highlighted number on your card for first aid. We always encourage riding with another person, not just for safety, but for shared enjoyment.

What should I do if I’m tired and need a pickup?

If you’re drained and can’t ride anymore, please call the highlighted SAG number on the back of your cue sheet. We’ll pick up you and your bike.
